A developing storm system will track from the southern Plains into the Southeast this weekend. Increasing Gulf moisture and strong upper-level support will lead to widespread rain and scattered thunderstorms. Some storms may become strong as the system moves east through Valentine’s Day.
Severe Threat Expands East Through Sunday
A strengthening upper-level trough over the West will shift east, helping a surface low move from the southern Plains into the Mississippi Valley by Saturday. As southerly winds pull moisture north from the Gulf, thunderstorms are expected to develop from Texas into Oklahoma Friday evening.
