The team spotted the site in 2023 while exploring the seafloor with a deep-diving robot, which revealed shimmering water, drifting bubbles, and thick patches of mussels clinging to the rocks.
Warm fluids and methane-rich gas erupt in the same small area, creating a hybrid system not documented elsewhere.
