But a new study published in the journal Nature Communications shows that as global temperatures continue to warm that the frequency of atmospheric rivers to Antarctica looks to double, with the precipitation increasing by 2.5 times. This would profoundly impact snowfall totals over Antarctica.

Adding Moisture To An Arid Desert

The McMurdo Station is the main U.S. station in Antarctica. In the summer, it might reach temperatures in the 40s, while in the winter temperatures can drop below minus 50. Precipitation across the continent is low, and it is considered an arid desert environment.
