In recent years, video games have been overpopulated by titles that utilize the medieval fantasy aesthetic to great effect. Soulslike games like Elden Ring and the recently released Black Myth: Wukong leaned heavily into the visual style to create a dreary atmosphere that helps players feel the almost insurmountable odds that are in their way. Not every game utilizes the medieval style to great effect, as many Steam Workshop titles end up filling their runtimes with pre-created assets which make the game less enjoyable to play. However, one game from the early 2000s for the original Xbox avoids these failures and is one of the best medieval series ever created.
