Bemidji Community Theater to present ‘Out of the Hat’ Aug. 10 | News World

BEMIDJI — Call it organized improv.

The Bemidji Community Theater’s “Out of the Hat” event is scheduled at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, at the BCT Performing Arts Center, 316 Beltrami Ave. NW.

The wild 24-hour event originated about 12 years ago by Greg Gasman and was revived last year. On Friday, Aug. 9, local writers draw ideas from four hats and will have 12 hours to write a 15-minute play. From the hats, they will draw an object to be used, a location for the play, the first sentence of dialog and the number of actors.

On Saturday at 8 a.m., directors will draw information for their play from hats and have until 6 p.m. that evening to rehearse, costume and get props and technicals set up. Then at 7 p.m., they will present the five plays to the public.
