LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Covenant Health System sealed a piece of history at the brand new Hope Tower on Wednesday.

A time capsule is now buried in the courtyard of Covenant’s Hope Tower, not to be opened for 49 years. The capsule is meant to serve as a reminder of the work done at Covenant Medical Center in the present, and a way to honor the past.

When Covenant Health’s West Tower was demolished in March 2018, a 66-year-old time capsule was uncovered in the debris. The contents inside? Newspapers, medicine, pictures, and history.

“I just feel amazed to be able to reach back to those years before I was even here and think about what this hospital has become,” Vice Chair of the Covenant Health System board, Kim Turner, said.

When that time capsule was opened, Turner got a glimpse of how future generations of healthcare workers will feel when they unseal the 2024 time capsule in 49 years.
