CARLSBAD, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Fire crews are battling a brush fire in Carlsbad that broke out Thursday afternoon.
The fire, dubbed the “Claro Fire,” was reported around 2:44 p.m. in the area of Corte Claro and Paseo Encino, sending a large plume of smoke into the air, as captured by one nearby resident.
As of 4 p.m., flames have burned through 40 acres in a canyon behind homes on the edge of the city and neighboring San Marcos, according to Cal Fire.
Crews on the ground say it is moving at a moderate rate of spread, although it is currently considered an immediate threat to life and property, per the county’s emergency alert system.
