Do you remember the last time you asked an AI chatbot to do something for you? Some experts are increasingly concerned that outsourcing these kinds of tasks could mean our brains are doing less work, potentially weakening critical thinking and problem-solving skills over time.
That concern was reinforced by a study published earlier this year by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The research showed that people who used ChatGPT to write essays displayed lower activity in brain networks associated with cognitive processing while completing the task. They also struggled more to recall or properly cite their own work compared with participants who did not use an AI chatbot.
