From Ocean Waters to Global Seafood Networks
Once in the ocean, some PFAS can enter marine food webs. Smaller organisms take them up from water and sediments, and those chemicals can then move into larger fish through feeding.
In a new study published in Science, researchers examined two well-known PFAS compounds, PFOS and PFOA, extending their analysis beyond accumulation in fish to consider how global fishing practices and seafood trade redistribute these chemicals internationally.
