The 2026 Winter Olympics have thrown a spotlight on Northern Italy in all its glory: The gorgeous Dolomite mountains, Milan’s Duomo and piazza, and the serious après-ski culture. Giada De Laurentiis has been traipsing around the region, highlighting some of her favorite places and things to eat and drink, from knödel in a ski hut to Negronis at her favorite aperitivo bar. When she and I chatted before she left for Italy, she waxed poetic about many things, but she was especially enthusiastic about Italian hot chocolate. “It’s made with melted pure chocolate and a little cream,” she says. “It’s not sweet, like a milk chocolate thing.
