The trend has been fuelled by the great wealth transfer — the estimated £5.5 trillion that will pass down the generations over the next three decades. Older family members are giving early inheritances to children and grandchildren in a bid to beat the taxman, but want assurance that the money will remain in the family in the event of a divorce or financially irresponsible spouse.
