A jet fuel spill at Newport News Shipyard remains under investigation as cleanup efforts are also ongoing.
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Officials have downgraded the estimate of the number of gallons of jet fuel released into the James River on Friday and also say they have been able to remove hundreds of gallons from the river.
The spill took place at Huntington Ingalls Industries Newport News Shipbuilding on Feb. 13, officials say. It happened around 1 p.m. during a shoreline refueling operation involving the aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy.
