SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A private jet owned by NASCAR champion Gregg Biffle that was apparently headed to Sarasota crashed at an airport in North Carolina Thursday morning, the local sheriff’s office said.
Friends of the Biffle family are reporting that Biffle and his family were aboard the Cessna Citation and all were killed in the crash.
North Carolina Highway Patrol spokesman Chris Knox confirmed seven people were aboard the aircraft and all died in the crash.
A Cessna C550 crashed during landing at Statesville Regional Airport in Iredell County at about 10:15 a.m.
Flight tracking records showed the plane took off at 10:06 a.m. but turned back to the airport, crashing eight minutes after taking off.
