How cardboard benefits your garden
Laying down sheets of plain, uncoated cardboard over soil is a surprisingly effective method to smother weeds. Cardboard blocks sunlight, which prevents weed seeds and seedlings from growing. At the same time, it slowly decomposes, adding organic carbon to the soil and improving its structure. This process encourages beneficial organisms such as earthworms and microbes to thrive.
