As of early this week, Illinois leads the country with 59 preliminary tornado reports, followed by Mississippi with 43, Louisiana with 31, Oklahoma with 24, and Alabama with 23, rounding out the top five states. If the 59 reports for the Prairie State are verified, it would mean the state has already experienced 5 more tornadoes than it does in an average year.
