Mexico ranks among the top three countries with the most private jets, with nearly 2,000 aircraft, according to a new report from the Alliance for Fiscal Justice (AJF). The concentration of private aviation is presented as a measurable indicator of emissions inequality and a potential reference point for future fiscal reforms.
Diego Merla, fiscal justice strategy coordinator, Oxfam Mexico, said the data reflects widening disparities in environmental impact. He noted that “the richest 0.1% in Mexico pollutes almost as much as the poorest 40%,” arguing that the current context should be used “to push a fiscal reform focused on redistribution between those who pollute more and those who suffer the effects of environmental deterioration.”
