Mrz. Hulk comics store a Black woman owned business | News World

Walking around downtown Mount Vernon, you might not see it at first. Tucked away on a block of Prospect Ave. among eateries and boutique shops is Mrz. Hulk 4 Life Comics & Cards, a store with hundreds (if not thousands) of comic books for sale.

Customers are greeted by comic-book-covered walls, a vintage Pac-Man arcade game, boxes of books as far as the eye can see, and Khaleelah Brown, the one-woman show who owns this little slice of comic book lover heaven and furnishes the store from her personal collection.

Brown, a Black woman who owns two other local businesses, first got the idea to sell some of her comic books in 2019. She began selling in 2020, using resources like online marketplace Whatnot, and quickly realized she was interested in finding a physical space to sell from.
