After weeks of winter coats, chilly mornings, and stubborn cold air, much of the central and eastern United States is about to feel a noticeable shift. A broad surge of warm air is setting up across the country, bringing unseasonably warm — and in some places record-breaking — temperatures as we move through the week.
For many, it will feel less like February and more like an early sneak peek of spring.
Warmth Builds Quickly in the Plains
The warm-up kicks off across the Plains, where temperatures will rise fast and dramatically. Afternoon highs are expected to run 20 to 30 degrees above normal, pushing many locations into the 60s and 70s.
