Fire weather conditions are expected to intensify across the Southern Plains today as warm temperatures, dry air, and increasing winds align. Recent weather patterns have allowed fuels to remain dry and receptive across much of the region. These conditions will persist through the afternoon before gradually easing this evening.
Why Fire Weather Is Peaking Today
A strengthening upper-level ridge over the central U.S. is helping push warm, dry air into the Southern Plains. As surface low pressure deepens to the north, winds increase and flow downslope off the Rockies, drying the air even further. Afternoon humidity levels are expected to drop into the teens across many areas.
