Over the next decade, high in the remote peaks of the Chilean Andes, an observatory will capture hundreds of nightly images of the southern sky, assembling the most detailed and comprehensive time-lapse of the cosmos ever created. This ambitious initiative is called the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST), and it’s being carried out at the Vera C. Rubin Observatory.
Unlike traditional telescopes that focus on narrow slices of the sky, Rubin will scan the entire visible southern sky every few nights, creating a dynamic, ever-evolving portrait of the universe in action.
