A stationary front stretching from the Northeast down into the Middle Mississippi Valley is acting as a focal point for repeated rounds of storms. At the same time, a dryline positioned over the Central and Southern Plains is helping to fuel additional thunderstorm development.
Together, these features are expected to generate widespread showers and severe thunderstorms from the Northeast through the Mississippi Valley and into the Plains through Thursday.
The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted the seriousness of this setup by issuing an Enhanced Risk (level 3 out of 5) for severe weather across parts of the Great Lakes and the Middle to Lower Mississippi Valley through Wednesday morning.
