Cold air crashing south in the West will clash with record heat surging north in the East to set up the country for multiple rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms this week.
Temperatures will climb to summer-like levels across the central and eastern U.S. this week, with records expected to fall across several states. The unusual April heat will target the plains Midwest, Ohio Valley, and Mid-Atlantic regions on Monday with highs forecast to rise to around 15 to nearly 30 degrees above average.
Highs early in the week could hit 80 as far north as southern Minnesota, southern lower Michigan, northern Ohio, and southern Pennsylvania.
