A New Methane Study
During the Covid-19 pandemic, there was a dip in daily CO2 emissions. However, methane rose to its highest levels in the atmosphere since scientists began measuring in the 1980s. A study published last week in Science had a team of over 40 scientists offer an answer to the chemical mystery.
Philippe Ciais, a researcher at France’s Laboratory for Climate and Environmental Sciences (LSCE) and lead author of the paper said, “By providing the most up-to-date global methane budget through 2023, this research clarifies why methane rose so rapidly — and why it has recently slowed.”
