It’s a Boeing! The Pentagon anointed the planemaker as the builder of its next-gen fighter jet, the F-47, President Trump announced yesterday. Boeing beat Lockheed Martin for the $20 billion contract to develop the high-tech machine that’ll replace the Air Force’s supersonic stealth plane, the Lockheed-made F-22 Raptor.

It might rake in hundreds of billions producing and servicing F-47s over decades, a prospect that comes as a much-needed pick-me-up for the embattled company.

• Boeing bled cash in the aftermath of last year’s safety scandals, and it’s locked into some unprofitable defense contracts.
• The F-47 win also provides a confidence boost after a malfunctioning Boeing Starliner spacecraft left two astronauts chilling in space for almost nine months longer than planned.
