The eleven-member panel of this commission concluded that the climate crisis represents a global health threat of such magnitude that the WHO should declare it a “Public Health Emergency of International Concern” (PHEIC).

The international spread of vector-borne diseases, such as dengue and chikungunya, as well as the health impacts of extreme weather events, global warming, food supply crises and air pollution, make a “PHEIC” necessary.
This conclusion appears in a Commission report calling for action, which was presented to European health ministers at the start of the WHO’s World Health Assembly.
