Brazilian and Danish researchers have recorded, for the first time, a fungus of the genus Cordyceps parasitizing a giant tarantula in the Amazon. The discovery occurred during a scientific expedition in the Adolpho Ducke Reserve, near Manaus, involving scientists from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), the University of Copenhagen (UCPH), and the National Institute for Amazonian Research (Inpa).

The identified species, Cordyceps caloceroides, was found infecting a spider of the species Theraphosa blondii, considered one of the largest tarantulas in the world.
