In my recent interview with Tom King and Ryan Sook about Black Canary: Best of the Best #1, King noted something fascinating that Stan Lee once wrote in the introduction to one of those themed trade paperbacks that Marvel used to do (this one was about Super Battles), and Lee explains that the drawback of actually having two super-beings fight each other, like the Hulk and Thor, is that they’re evenly matched enough that you are essentially just showing two boxers fighting each other, and that it takes away what makes BOTH characters special, and it’s just two “normal” people boxing, and you could see that anywhere, and that instead, you have to concentrate on character.
