A period of unseasonably warm temperatures is expected to develop ahead of an approaching cold front. Southerly flow will increase moisture and instability across the region through the day. These conditions will support a transition to active weather by late Thursday.
Setup Favors Strong Storm Development
A fast-moving upper-level disturbance and an approaching cold front will set the stage for Thursday’s severe weather. Thursday will likely begin quiet and very warm across much of the region, but the weather may change quickly later in the day.
The front dropping south into the Midwest and Ohio Valley will act as the main trigger for thunderstorm development. Once storms begin to form, they could strengthen quickly.
