WASHINGTON — The US military launched overnight attacks in Venezuela that led to the capture and extradition of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, according to a statement from US President Donald Trump.
In a social media post, Trump said that he would hold a press conference at 11:00 today to provide further information about the attack and what comes next.
Sen. Mike Lee, a Utah Republican, said in a social media post that Secretary of State Marco Rubio cited Article II of the US Constitution as justification for the actions without a formal declaration of war or authorization of military force. Maduro had been charged in 2020 by US courts with “narco-terrorism.”
