Snow is tapering off across New York City after a major winter storm delivered widespread accumulation. Even as the steadiest snowfall ends, slick streets and untreated sidewalks remain a concern. The bigger story now shifts to the cold Arctic air behind the system, which will slow melting and keep hazards in place.
Snow Totals And What’s Next For NYC
New York City officially measured 11.4 inches of snow in Central Park, making it the snowiest January 25 on record.
Totals across the boroughs ranged from around 10 to nearly 15 inches in spots, according to storm-total reports from the National Weather Service.
With temperatures staying below freezing, very little melt occurred Monday, leading to widespread slush, slick sidewalks, and snow-packed secondary roads.
