As we close out February, the overall weather pattern across the U.S. is becoming pretty well-established — and it’s a classic late-winter setup that creates big contrasts from one region to another.
At the upper levels, we’re looking at a broad trough anchored over the eastern half of the country, while a strong ridge holds firm along the West Coast. This pattern isn’t going anywhere quickly, and it’s setting the stage for wet weather in the South, springlike warmth in parts of the West and Plains, and a sharp turn back toward winter for the Midwest and Northeast.
