Apple is increasing its warnings about a series of exploits affecting iPhone and iPad users running outdated software.
As spotted by MacRumors, a “Critical Software” notification now appears on the lock screen of impacted iPhone and iPad devices. It warns those running iOS 17 or earlier to be aware of the possibility of an attack and to update to the latest version as soon as possible.
It says, “Apple is aware of attacks targeting out-of-date iOS software, including the version on your iPhone. Install this critical update to protect your iPhone.”
To check if you have an update waiting, head to Settings > General > Software Update. You won’t get a notification if you’re running the latest software, which for most modern devices is iOS 26.4 or iPadOS 26.4.
