MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — A mother says her young son could have died or been seriously injured on the water last weekend after a jet ski nearly plowed into him.
It happened Saturday at Saguaro Lake when the weather was nice and the lake was at capacity. What was supposed to be a fun day at the lake took a terrifying turn for the Maricopa family.
Gabrielle Steele said a group went boating out on the lake for a friend’s birthday. They were pulling her son and husband on an inner tube behind their boat.
“My son was still on the inner tube. We had our flag up in the air, letting people around us know he was in the water,” Steele said.
That’s when she said a jet skier sped toward the inner tube, unaware that 9-year-old James was floating in their path.
