MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A new anti-blight ordinance passed by the Mobile City Council went into effect this week.
The ordinance requires owners of vacant commercial properties in the downtown area to register with the city. They will have to secure the buildings, install fire-suppression equipment, and then put the properties to productive use or sell them in order to avoid annual fees.
