When people hear the words “tropical storm,” they often focus on the wind speed. In Boris’ case, however, the greatest threat isn’t the wind, it’s the rain.
As of Monday afternoon, Boris was located about 115 miles southeast of Acapulco and was crawling northward at just 3 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm was packing maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, and forecasters expect little change in strength before it reaches the coast of Guerrero early Tuesday.
The slow movement is a major concern because it allows heavy rain bands to linger over the same locations for extended periods.
