ERA5 reanalysis for June is running late this month, so while we wait, a real remote-sensing treat appeared. Polar orbiting satellites captured spectacular clear sky views of the southern Beaufort Sea and adjacent land areas on Monday morning July 6, 2026. It is quite unusual in summer to have clear skies over so much of this region at the same time, as low clouds and fog dominate in summer over the ice pack.
