A Record-Breaking Discovery!
The TESS space telescope (Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite) was launched into space on April 18, 2018, with the mission of searching for new exoplanets using the transit method. Its specific goal is to detect rocky planets orbiting within the habitable zones of stars that are both bright and relatively close to Earth.
To achieve this, the telescope observes nearly the entire sky, spending 27 days scanning each sector of the celestial sphere.
