As the Ebola outbreak grows and raises global health concerns, there has been renewed scrutiny on the Trump administration’s public health policies and treatment of disease surveillance and outbreak-response programs, as well as the impact of dissolution of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The conversation has intensified after a resurfaced 2025 video of Elon Musk, then head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), acknowledged that the agency had temporarily cut some Ebola-related prevention efforts before restoring them.
