The Shaking Was Felt Across Florida
A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck offshore west of Cuba at approximately 2 p.m. EDT Monday. According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred about 64 miles west-northwest of Mantua, Cuba.
This was the strongest earthquake on record near Florida.
Although the earthquake’s epicenter was far from Florida, it still sent tremors across the state. Residents in Miami, Tampa, Orlando, and as far north as Jacksonville and Tallahassee reported feeling the shaking.
Florida is not known for frequent earthquake activity, so this event stands out….
