The snapshot comes from the eighth edition of the World Air Quality Report, prepared by Swiss company IQAir, which analyzes data from more than 40,000 stations spread across 9,446 cities in 143 countries, territories, and regions.
The new edition shows sharp contrasts. While some territories achieved sustained improvements, others experienced significant deterioration. In total, 54 countries recorded an annual increase in PM2.5 levels, 75 posted declines, two remained unchanged, and a dozen were included in the global database for the first time.
