Chicago is about to experience its hottest weather of 2026 so far, with highs nearing 90 degrees and 80s potentially lingering for days. The unusual early-June warmth follows one of the city’s warmest springs on record.
While it won’t constitute an official heat wave, Chicago will warm sharply today and tomorrow, with some of the hottest temperatures of the year so far possible on Thursday and Friday. Before today, the hottest day of 2026 occurred on May 17 when the high hit 87, 16 degrees above average. The city’s longest stretch of warm weather occurred later that month, when highs hit the 80s for three consecutive days.
