The Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft has had its service life extended to 2030.
“In consultation with [the Secretary of War], we will extend the A-10 Warthog platform to 2020,” stated US Air Force (USAF) secretary Troy Meink in a social media post.
“This preserves combat power as the defence industrial base works to increase combat aircraft production.”
Re-posting Meink’s remarks about the A-10, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth added “Long live the Warthog”.
Previous plans had called for the A-10 – which the USAF has long sought to retire – to exit service in the US government’s 2029 fiscal year, which ends on 29 September 2029.
