DENVER, Colo. (KKTV) – Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced a new agreement between the Department of Transportation and state Attorneys General, which he said seeks to strengthen consumer protections.
He announced it alongside Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser Tuesday morning at Denver International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the nation.
“Travel is everything, from everyday work, routine for some, to an adventure of a lifetime for others,” Secretary Buttigieg said. “We need to make sure that experience is secure and that experience is fair.”
The Airline Passenger Protection Partnership is between the DOT and 18 participating attorneys general and, according to a release sent out by the DOT, it expands the Department’s oversight capacity through a fast-tracked system that prioritizes misconduct cases from state attorneys general who investigate and find unfair or deceptive practices from airlines.
This gives AGs more authority, as well as access to the federal complaint database, which the DOT says will ensure airlines cooperate with state investigations.
